There’s nothing better than setting off on a long bike ride. Though the preparation for this was a bit unusual because it involved separating camping gear from cycling gear and packing the former in the car and reassembling the bikes. All of which took some time, and quite a lot of pavement! Anyway, we left our nice hotel at about 10.

Our first stop was at Schloss Nymphenburg, just round the corner.

Then we threaded our way right across Munich and out the other side – a very slow process, with loads of traffic lights, but good bike lanes.
Once we reached open country things speeded up a bit, and we soon saw the Alps dominating the view ahead. Are we really going over those? Not today anyway. We finished in the spa town of Bad Aibling, after a great first day. The weather has been cool (13 this morning and 20 this afternoon) but we’ve had some sunshine, and the forecast is set fair and warming up nicely. Here’s hoping.
